Flag removal or freezing

The procedure described below applies only to commercial yachts registered with the RIF. If you own a private or commercial yacht registered in the national registry, please contact the leisure boating department of your Departmental Directorate for Territories and Seas.

This request is used to freeze the French flag (in the case of a foreign bareboat charter set) or to remove the French flag.

The following form shall be sent to the RIF Office

If the yacht is mortgaged, it will be necessary to discharge the maritime mortgages beforehand, to be able to proceed with the removal of the French flag.

Request may be sent by email to the address rif@mer.gouv.fr.

As of 31/05/2021, for any yacht removal request, a declaration specifying that the yacht is not intended for recycling or, if it is the case, a declaration specifying that it is sent to a shipyard approved by the European Commission is required.
