EIAPP certificates

The EIAPP certificate is the international certificate for the prevention of air pollution by engines, which covers NOx emissions 1.

Every diesel engine subject to certification for installation on board a French ship shall perform a pre-certification survey with the manufacturer. The EIAPP certificate and the technical file are issued to the engine after the survey, if compliance with the NOx Technical Code is confirmed.

A diesel engine certified by the administration of a State Party to MARPOL 73/78, 1997 Protocol, is deemed compliant to the NOx Technical Code, 2008.

The EIAPP certificate and the technical file are valid for the entire life of the engine, provided there are no significant modifications.

Any changes made by the manufacturer to the technical file shall be approved by an authorized organization.

The decree n°2013-70 of January 21, 2013 publishing resolution MEPC.177(58) Amendments to the Technical Code on the control of nitrogen oxide emissions from marine diesel engines sets that the authorized classification societies (SCH in French) are from now on competent for the issuance of EIAPP certificates.
